Fall Favorites

As of September 23rd, it is officially fall. The colder temps are yet to come but the rain has been relentless as hurricane Jacquin (are they running out of “J” names or what!?) makes its way through the Atlantic. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are filling Instagram newsfeeds all over the world, Halloween decorations line the shelves and fall fashion is soon to strike.
With that, school work is piling up and the motivation to complete assignments before their due date has departed with the sunshine. Nevertheless… looking forward for whats to come this fall is keeping my spirits high as the leaves begin to change.

What I’m wearing…

Fall fashion is one of my favorite parts of the chilly temperatures. Sweaters, scarves, boots, oh my! If I had my choice, I would live in a place where it is summer year-round… One day you will find me somewhere along the equator, basking in the heat. Until then, I will continue to embrace the plaid and leather boots.
I cannot wait to stay warm with my plaid blanket scarf. Unfortunately, its not cold enough yet but these are extremely versatile, as they can be worn around your shoulders or as a scarf… Snuggle in style this season!

Shoes are always a great finishing touch. This fall I can’t wait to add a comfortable everyday bootie to my wardrobe. Ankle boots can be dressed up with a dress or can be worn with jeans for a more casual feel. They are available in many different styles and colors but here are a few of my favorites:

What I’m doing…

Fall is a great time to get outdoors as the air is crisp and the leaves are changing. Whether you head outdoors to pick a pumpkin from a pumpkin patch or fresh apples from an orchard, there are a number of fall activities for all ages. As Halloween rolls around the corner, haunted houses and amusement parks can add an extra thrill!

What I’m eating…

Although I love fall fashion, fall foods are by far my favorite part of the season. Personally I am a fan of comfort foods when the colder temperatures move in. But luckily, comfort foods don’t always have to equal added calories!
Did you know that pumpkin is a great source of fiber and can actually help you lose weight this fall season?
Pumpkin-you-name-it lines every grocery aisle, probably making it one of the most popular flavors for this time of the year. Proceed with your pumpkin obsession using caution because only real pumpkin offers these benefits!
(Don’t we all wish pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin beer and pumpkin pie could actually help us lose weight!?)
Incorporating fresh pumpkin into your recipes may help in reducing cancer risk due to the antioxidant beta-carotene (also found in sweet potatoes, carrots and butternut squash).
Pumpkins are packed with vitamin C to help fight off any cold germs that are known to attack during this time of the year as well as vitamin A, which aids vision.
Lastly, pumpkin seeds are rich in phytosterols, plant-based chemicals, that have been found to reduce LDL, also known as the “bad” cholesterol. They also are rich in the amino acid tryptophan, which is important in the production of serotonin, a major factor when it comes to our mood. Fortunately, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding pumpkin on your grocery store shelf or even better at a pumpkin patch!
There are an endless number of recipes in which you could incorporate pumpkin: from waffles to smoothies to desserts and even pumpkin pie oatmeal.
