The Benefits of Lemon Water

Lemons are packed with vitamin C, B-complex, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and fiber!
Lemon water provides a number of benefits including giving your immune system a boost through the high levels of vitamin C, especially during times of high stress.

The potassium in lemon water is good for heart health and brain and nerve function.
It also will cleanse your system by flushing out the toxins in your body by stimulating your liver through enhanced enzyme function. The antioxidants in lemon juice also help to decrease blemishes and wrinkles and increase your skin’s radiance. Lemon water can be used as a great detox!
As published by Indian researchers in a 2005 edition of BMC Pharmacology, hesperidin (a citrus bioflavonoid found in lemons) demonstrates the ability to protect the liver from damage. After administration of CCl4 (a well known liver toxin), the authors concluded that hesperidin demonstrates a protective effect on the liver. Our liver is responsible for filtering everything that we consume and neutralizing toxins.
As an athlete, I am a big fan of lemon water’s ability to remove uric acid in your joints, thus reducing inflammation! It also gives you an energy boost and can help to reduce anxiety and depression. Some find that drinking hot lemon water in the morning can help to cut out caffeine and there is no mid-afternoon crash!
Hot lemon water is also great for viral infections and especially, sore throats!

Dilute the lemon water to your personal taste & enjoy!
Watch out: Lemon juice can be hard on the enamel of your teeth so be sure to dilute it with water and I would not suggest drinking it everyday! Additionally, be sure to either brush your teeth before you drink it or do not brush your teeth immediately after. Using a straw can help eliminate some of the negative effects on your enamel!
Also, try to avoid the lemon seeds as much as possible! One or two, here and there won’t hurt you but they contain small amounts of salicylic acid, the main ingredient in aspirin. In addition, try to avoid adding sweeteners to your lemon water, other than raw honey, as it will negate many of the benefits mentioned above.
